Michael Bartholomeusz – Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Michael Bartholomeusz became Chief Executive Officer of HZO in July 2013. Since then he has been focused on operational excellence to accelerate the company’s growth, diversification, technical leadership, industry dominance and brand recognizance. Prior to HZO and since 2002, Michael has successfully managed and led enterprises ranging from start-ups to large multinational corporations as a Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice President. Michael has a proven track record of rapidly commercializing technologies and growing high-tech businesses into market share leaders, both organically and through strategic transactions; including numerous JVs and mergers and acquisitions. Michael has sat on numerous Boards, has over 26 granted and pending patents, and is widely published and cited in top industry peer reviewed journals. He has an MSc and PhD in Materials Engineering, a BA in Physics, and has extensive formal business training from the Darden School of Business and the St. Gallen Management Institute (SGMI) in Switzerland.
James “Jay” Suel – Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Suel joined HZO in September, 2013 as Chief Financial Officer. Prior to HZO, James was a Vice President for Sorenson Capital Partners where he assisted in buying and selling companies from within the partner’s portfolio. He also acted as interim CFO for several of the firm’s investments. Jay was also the N. American CFO for Nobel BioCare, a Swiss medical device manufacturer. Mr. Suel also served various CFO roles within the Danaher Corporation from 2001 to 2010, serving as CFO for the Danaher Test & Measurement Platform and the Danaher Dental Consumables Platform and before that acting as CFO for Alpha Technologies. Mr. Suel’s expertise includes public company reporting and treasury management, significant mergers, acquisition and integration activity and processes, operational/cost accounting, continuous improvement utilizing Six Sigma processes, risk-management, IT and business systems management as well as human resources oversight. He has a BA in Business Administration & Accounting from the University of St. Thomas.
Andreas Morr – Chief Operations Officer
Andreas Morr joined HZO in 2013 as Vice President of Engineering & Manufacturing, and now serves as the company’s Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Morr is an analytical thought leader in global operational management and technology process development with proven aptitude in establishing supply chain efficiency and high production automation solutions in hyper growth organizations and Fortune 500 companies. He has extensive experience in consumer and industrial applications, and a background in executive leadership, managing global operations, engineering and electronics manufacturing services. Andreas is also skilled in lean manufacturing, six sigma, product lifecycle management and new product introductions. He has a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from the Chamber of Industry & Trade in Essen, Germany.
Max Sorenson – Chief Technology Officer
Offering more than 30 years of experience in technology development and implementation in manufacturing, Max Sorenson specializes in initiating and implementing innovative thin film and coating technologies. With HZO since 2011, Mr. Sorenson serves as Chief Technical Officer and lends expertise in start-up growth and intellectual property protection. Previously, he founded ECOSIL Technologies, Inc., and Aeromet Technologies, Inc., both coating technology licensing companies. In addition, he served in various capacities with Covol Technology, Inland Steel Co. and Geneva Steel. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in metallurgical engineering from the University of Utah and a Master of Science in industrial management from Purdue University.
Sergio Leveratto – Chief Sales & Marketing Officer
With nearly two decades of experience spearheading global sales, marketing and business development initiatives for internationally recognized brands, Sergio Leveratto creates sustainable revenue and profit streams. Joining HZO in 2013, Leveratto is chief sales & marketing officer and uses his fluency in four languages to build strong global alliances and execute global brand recognition campaigns. Prior to HZO, he spent 13 years in sales and business development with mobile phone giant Nokia and five years as a product manager with private telecommunications company Telefonica. He has a degree in business from the Universidad Argentina de la Empresa.
Steve Sherman – Chief Strategy Officer
Drawing on extensive experience implementing strategy, process improvements and technology solutions, Steve Sherman advises and implements strategy and technology that optimize efficiency and organizational accountability. With HZO since 2012, Sherman serves as chief strategy officer and guides global strategic platforms and development, including corporate systems strategy as well as internal and external marketing initiatives. Prior to HZO, he spent 15 years with Hirata Corporation of America, a global automation and production engineering company, in director-level and executive roles. He is fluent in Japanese and has a degree in Asian studies from Brigham Young University.
Pam Gunnell – Chief Human Resources Officer
Pam Gunnell, Chief Human Resource Officer, became part of the HZO team early in 2014 to direct the ongoing expansion and development of the company’s global workforce. Ms. Gunnell is a certified HR practitioner with more than 25 years of experience in industries ranging from biotech and mining to automotive and manufacturing, bringing expertise in workforce planning, human asset management and global operations. Before joining HZO, Pam initiated and managed all aspects of human relations both in the role of a consultant and a leader in national and international organizations like Autoliv and Rio Tinto. With training and experience in Lean Six Sigma, Pam is skilled at developing data driven systems and processes around recruiting, compliance, communications, benefits, compensation, and change management. She has a bachelor’s in business management and earned her MBA from Utah State University, where she also serves as an Adjunct Professor.
Yuanda Randy Cheng – President, HZO China
A global executive and technology leader with an academic mind, Randy Cheng drives revenue and expands market share for thin-film technology organizations. Joining HZO in 2013 as vice president & general manager of operations in China, Cheng applies his multicultural education, work history and international leadership experience to expanding HzO’s global presence. Previous experience includes stints with AQT Solar, Heraeus Thin Film Materials, Hoya USA, Akashic Memory and IBM. He has a Bachelor of Science in physics from Beijing University of Technology, an Executive Master of Business Administration from St. Gallen University, a doctorate in physics from Arizona State University, and a Master of Business Administration from China Europe International Business School, and he is a Six Sigma Blackbelt.
Simone Maraini – President, HZO Europe
Simone Maraini joined HZO in December, 2014 to lead the expansion of HZO into Europe. Along with his strong financial and M&A experience, Mr. Maraini has worked with leading manufacturing companies across several of HZO’s target industries including aerospace and defense. Prior to joining HZO, Simone was the CFO of Alenia North America, where revenues rapidly grew from $25 million to $320 million, a prime contractor for the U.S. government. He also held the same position for Global Aeronautica, a joint venture between The Boeing Company and Alenia Aermacchi. Simone earned his bachelor’s degree in law from Universita La Sapienza in Italy and completed the Executive Management program (AMP178) at Harvard Business School. He is fluent in multiple languages including Italian, English, French and Spanish.
