Apple Announces Newly Revamped iPad 4th Gen and Highly Anticipated iPad Mini During Live Press Event

The wait is finally over!

iPad Mini

Today, during a live press event that, for the first time, was broadcast online for the public to view, Apple announced the long awaited and highly-rumored iPad Mini. The device looks to be a smaller, slightly redesigned version of its full-sized iPad big brother, with a width of only 7.2 mm and a 7.9 inch screen size.  At a mere .68 pounds, half as light as the iPad, Apple claims the iPad Mini is just as light as a legal notepad. The iPad Mini will have a screen resolution of 1,024 x 768, which is the same resolution as the iPad 2, and will contain a dual-core A5 processor, FaceTime HD camera on the front, and a 5-megapixel iSight camera on the back with 1080p recording. LTE wireless will also be built into the device, as well as the new Lightning dock connector, putting the device in line with redesigns we have seen on the new iPhone 5 and iPod devices.

Prices for Apple’s new iPad Mini tablet will start at just $329 for the 16GB Wi-Fi version, with the 32GB and 64GB models starting at $429 and $519, respectively. Preorders start this Friday, October 26th, and Wi-Fi versions of the device ship on November 2nd.

iPad 4th Gen

Apple also announced the unveiling of a new iPad at today’s event with the reveal of the iPad 4th Gen, a mere 6 months after the last iPad was announced. This new iPad revamp will feature a A6X processor, which doubles the CPU and graphics performance of the current model. Other updated features include a now 720p FaceTime camera, LTE coverage, 2x faster Wi-Fi, and includion of the new Lightning dock connector. The new 4th Gen iPad will remain at the same price points we have seen in the past, with the 16GB Wi-Fi model starting at $499.
