Apple Unveils New 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display

During their October 23rd live keynote presentation, Apple unveiled a shiny new 13-inch MacBook Pro with a stunning retina display and a new, slimmer design build. The new MacBook has been rumored to be announced for some time now, and now those rumors can be put to rest.

Thinner and Lighter

The new MacBook Pro is just .75-inches thick- that’s 20% thinner than the previous model. The laptop also weighs in at only 3.57 pounds, making it the lightest MacBook Pro ever. Although the new MacBook Pro is smaller and lighter, it still has a decent port selection with two Thunderbolt and two USB 3.0 ports, as well as an HDMI port, SD card slot, 3.5mm headphone jack, and MagSafe 2 power connector.

Retina Display

The big news with the new 13-inch MacBook Pro is the fact that it will be fallowing in the footsteps of its big brother, the 15-inch model, and will now be equipped with an ultra-impressive retina display, with 227 pixels per inch and a 2560 x 1600 screen resolution. Just like the 15-inch MacBook Pro, the screen has four times as many pixels as the non-Retina machine it is replacing- which came in at a resolution of only 1280 x 800. Apple has also added a helpful feature that will reduce annoying screen glare by 75%, which should be helpful when using the laptop in bright environments, such as direct sunlight.

On the Inside

On the inside, the new MacBook Pro has dual-core i5 or i7 Ivy Bridge processors, depending on the configuration you choose to go with, up to 768GB of Flash memory, and 8GB of RAM plus Intel HD 4000 Graphics. Additional specs include a FaceTime HD camera, stereo speakers, and a backlit keyboard. Apple states that the new MacBook Pro should get about 7-hours of battery life.

Pricing and Availability

The new MacBook Pro is available now, with a starting price of $1,699 for the base model. The older MacBook Pros will be staying around as well for those people looking for an Apple laptop at a cheaper price, with those older models starting at $1,199.
