At HZO, protecting what matters most to you matters most to each of us. We wanted to pull back the curtain and show you how we work together to do this, so we asked a few of our employees to weigh in.

The first blog in this series features Richard Weiland as he discusses what it’s like to work at HZO:

1. What is your position at HZO, and what does that entail? 

I am an account manager with HZO, and my job requires many key responsibilities including:

  • Facilitating new business opportunities for existing and new OEM programs
  • Coordinating across internal teams (R&D, operations, sales, marketing, etc.) to ensure timely delivery of solutions tailored to individual customer specifications and expectations
  • Customer relationship management which includes coordinating internal and external communications and providing complete/compelling proposal opportunities
  • Serving as a sales advocate for specific internal cross-functional teams to drive sustainable processes that scale with HZO’s continued growth

2. What was your background before you came to HZO? 

My background before joining HZO was in the environmental industry as we manufactured selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst explicitly tailored for natural gas/coal power plants and automobile pollution control systems. I worked in several different roles over ten years. I first started in product development, then shifted to application engineering, and then progressing to business development/account management.

My tasks were wide-ranging from helping to develop new products/technology, facilitating catalyst installations/repairs, building customer relationships, and executing large and complex proposals. This experience was valuable and has helped my transition toward another dynamic and technology leader in HZO.

3. What do you love most about working here?

If I can only share one thing, I would say that the best thing about HZO is the people. HZO is diverse as we encapsulate people from a variety of backgrounds, experiences, and cultures and blend them into one working unit.

Everyone is eager to jump in and help where needed and strive to deliver quality solutions to our customer base. It is encouraging that even though I have only been with HZO for the last 7 months, I have learned so much from my colleagues and am eager to continue learning, collaborating, and helping HZO to grow.

4. What’s challenging about working here?

The most challenging thing about working at HZO is the continually changing and evolving technology landscape. Our business moves very fast because companies and consumers alike are constantly pushing boundaries and seeking the most innovative products, with the highest value, at the lowest price possible.

This is both challenging and exciting because every day is different and HZO, like our customers, must deliver cutting-edge new technology solutions that develop and conceptualize quickly to satisfy the market.

5. What do you do when you’re off the clock?

When I am not working at HZO, my hobbies include exercising, watching sports (diehard Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins fan), fantasy sports, jet-skiing, and barbecuing. My newest hobby is hanging out with my 8-week-old daughter which mostly entails watching TV while she cutely naps or serving as an athletic coach during tummy time.

6. What’s the most important thing we should know about HZO?

The most important thing that should be known about HZO is that the HZO Spectrum of Protection™ is not just a saying, it is something that we as a company truly believe in. We as a company, have the people, technology, and processes to solve problems of varying complexity, scale, and volume to provide the best possible tailored, turnkey solution to an individual need. We have a ton of expertise and engineering know-how and we are constantly striving to learn and provide additional value through our technology and solution portfolio.
