Intern Highlight – Thao Bui

At HZO, protecting what matters most to you matters most to each of us. We wanted to pull back the curtain and show you how we work together to do this, so we asked a few of our interns to weigh in.
The first blog in this series features Thao Bui as she discusses what it’s like to be a Strategic Marketing Intern at HZO:
1. What college do you attend, what is your major, and what do you hope to do with your degree?
I am currently an MBA candidate, class of 2021, at Rutgers Business School. Majoring in Marketing Research and Analytics, I want to further my experience and knowledge of marketing, after spending years in brand management in the Consumer Packaged Goods industry.
2. What does your intern position entail?
I conduct market research on various industries. For example, I am researching the thin-film coating market to identify potential business opportunities. I am also conducting a SWOT analysis on HZO to gain strategic insights on product marketing strategy. Based on the information from the market landscape, I will propose and recommend our strategic brand positioning.
3. What has been a challenge about working here?
My prior professional background was in CPG brand marketing. There has been a learning curve in transitioning from a B2C to B2B. I am also gaining a lot of valuable knowledge about the protection coating sectors. It is exciting to push myself to learn quickly within the 10 weeks to achieve my goals in the internship.
In her free time, Thao enjoys taking wrestling lessons.
4. What advice would you give to anyone interested in working at HZO in the future?
