BOARD OF DIRECTORS & OBSERVERS
Kamal Bherwani is the Chief Technology Officer of Inversora Agroindustrial Global (IAG, S.L.), a multi-national conglomerate focused on the production and distribution of agricultural products. As CTO, Mr. Bherwani leads technology strategy, architecture, and operations, both on front-office side and the back-office parts of IAG’s businesses. He also serves as Managing Director of Technology Investments and oversees all phases of investments in technology companies for the Group. Mr. Bherwani’s technology career spans over 25 years where he has served as a senior technology manager of multi-bullion dollar enterprises, both in the public and private sectors, and has served on the Board of several non-profit, technology, and investment organizations. Mr. Bherwani was previously Chief Digital Officer for PRISA, the world’s largest Spanish language media company and the Chief Information Officer for Health and Human Services for the City of New York under Mayor Bloomberg. He is currently the Chairman of Magine TV and is on the Board of Directors of Bounty Hunter, Chatterbox, Punch.in, Carteirra and HZO. Mr. Bherwani also serves on multiple Advisory Boards, including Stony Brook University’s CEWIT (Center of Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology), IBM Cloud and Smarter Infrastructure Advisory Board, and Dell’s President’s Advisory Board.
Gavin Myers – Prudence Holdings
Gavin Myers is the Head of Direct Investments at Prudence Holdings, a single-family office that makes growth equity investments in market leading businesses as well as provides specialty credit for companies seeking creative financing solutions. Mr. Myers joined Prudence Holdings in 2009 from Sun Capital Partners and previously worked at Credit Suisse and Goldman Sachs. In addition to HZO, Mr. Myers sits on the Board of Directors of Thuzio and Voray and is a Board Observer at Blockchain, ChangeTip and Wananchi Group Holdings. He is a Founding Board Member of New Jersey Needs You, a non-profit focused on providing mentorship and career development to first-generation and low-income college students.
Ryan Pollock – Iron Gate Capital
Ryan Pollock joined Iron Gate Capital in March 2013 as a Managing Director. Prior to joining Iron Gate Capital, Mr. Pollock was a Managing Director at Meritage Funds, a Private Equity and Venture Capital firm based in Denver, Colorado. Mr. Pollock has a strong operating background having held several management positions at Investec Asset Management, a $120 billion global investment company based in London and South Africa. Mr. Pollock is a member of the Board of Directors for the Rocky Mountain Venture Capital Association and the founder and Chairman of Starfish Greathearts Foundation USA. He serves on the Board of Iron Gate Capital portfolio companies AcuStream and Branded Online.
AJ Dye – Delta Electronics Capital
AJ Dye is a member of the senior investment team at Delta Electronics Capital, the investment arm of Delta Electronics, a global leader in power and thermal management solutions headquartered in Taiwan. Based in Denver, Colorado, Mr. Dye is responsible for sourcing, executing, and managing minority investment and acquisition opportunities in North America with a focus on the energy and technology sectors. Prior to Delta, Mr. Dye was a Carolina Venture Fellow at SJF Ventures, a venture capital firm investing in high growth, positive impact companies in the resource efficiency, sustainability, and technology-enhanced services sectors. Mr. Dye began his career as an investment banker with Innovation Capital where he completed transactions aggregating over $1 billion. He also is a frequent panelist and judge at industry conferences including Cleantech Open, NREL Industry Growth Forum, and Blue Ocean Enterprise Challenge.
Don Blohm – Sorenson Capital
Don Blohm has been with Sorenson Capital for six years and currently serves as an Operating Partner. He has extensive experience in global operations management and has acted in a variety of executive level operational roles. Mr. Blohm has been directly involved in evaluating numerous potential acquisitions, in integrating operations post-close, and has broad expertise identifying and implementing operational improvements that impact bottom-line results. His experience crosses over a number of industrial markets, including mining, oil and gas, power, chemical, and consumer products.
Patrick Poon – Horizons Ventures
Patrick Poon joined Horizons Ventures in January 2014 as a Project Director, conducting due diligence and investment management on portfolio companies. In addition to HZO, Mr. Poon serves as a Board Member for several other Horizons funded companies including Guardtime, Filip Technologies and Teralytics. Mr. Poon previously led several teams including product development, innovation, and mobile at Hong Kong based Hutchison Telecommunications.
Doug Jamison – Harris & Harris
Doug Jamison currently serves as Chairman, CEO, and Managing Director of Harris & Harris Group, Inc., a publicly traded venture capital firm that has made continual strategic investments in nanotechnology and Biology. Prior to becoming CEO, Mr. Jamison also served in the role of President, COO and CFO of Harris & Harris Group. Mr. Jamison also served as a Senior Technology Manager at the University of Utah Technology Transfer Office, where he managed intellectual property and assessed technologies in physics, chemistry, and bioengineering, working with patent attorneys to develop patent protection, and developing and marketing these technologies within applicable industry verticals. In addition to HZO, Mr. Jamison also serves as a director for ProMuc Inc. and Produced Water Absorbents and a board observer of ABS Materials, Inc. and Metabolon, Inc., all privately held companies where Harris & Harris have investments. Some of his previous investments and boards include Solazyme, Inc. (Nasdaq:SZYM), Ancora Pharmaceuticals (Acq. CordenPharma), Innovalight (Acq. by DuPont), Crystal-IS (Acq. By Asahi Kasei) and Nanogram Devices (Acq. By Wilson Greatbatch). Mr. Jamison is Editor-in-Chief of Nanotechnology Law and Business.
Jackie Yang – TransLink Capital
Jackie Yang is a co-founder and Managing Director of TransLink Capital. Before starting TransLink, Mr. Yang was a Senior Vice President at UMC Capital and responsible for the firm’s investment activities in the US and China. Mr. Yang started his career at InveStar Capital, where he specialized in semiconductor and telecommunications companies. In 2012, he was named to the AlwaysOn Venture Capital 100. Jackie is responsible for TransLink’s investments in Adwo, Luxul, Memoright, Montage (NASDAQ:MONT), SandForce (Acq. LSI), Tango, and Winking Entertainment.
